ARTIST'S BIO
A pianocentric band that's loaded with creativity, energy and talent. Flat Fifth plays a curious mix of pop and jazz that is instantly accessible and dangerously infectious.
From the heart of Nova Scotia's South Shore comes this highly entertaining quintet, who's style and sound showcase their extensive musical tastes and considerable talent.
Having recently joined forces in a desire to create exciting and stimulating music, this experienced group of performers are an explosive combination. Acoustic piano, guitar, fiddle, double bass, harmonica, percussion and vocals - all working together to approach music from a direction that is both refreshing and exceptionally enjoyable.
Melodically driven, Flat Fifth’s songs have been described as “a fascinating blend of pop, folk and jazz?. Having just recorded their six-song self-titled EP, the group is enjoying the instant success of their song “Wish I didn’t know…? which has received extensive airplay in the Maritimes. The commercial potential of this band is blaringly evident on first listen.
Hands-down winners at the 2006 Folk Fiesta and featured performers at this year’s Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival, Nova Scotia Music Week and ECMA 2007 - Flat Fifth is creating a definite buzz on the South Shore with their energetic shows and wonderful songs.
Their EP was recently nominated for two 2006 Music Nova Scotia awards - new group/artist recording of the year and jazz/blues recording of the year. This band is hot, their songs are catchy, they're great live and people love them. What else is there to say?
Well, one thing... "As individuals the band members shine: as a group they are brilliant" (Artistic Director - Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival)
