The Disengagement as we know it began to form in late 2005 under a variety of different names through musical experiments in various basements and living rooms in Stephenville, Newfoundland. Early recordings were mostly instrumental and consisted of spacey, intricately interwoven guitars, pounding rhythms, and long jams based around loose musical themes. Several early demos and live shows followed as the band started to tighten their compositions and develop their sound. Following a brief hiatus in first half of 2007, Cox, Hann, guitarist/saxophonist Kevin Carey and bassist Ryan Froude became the second lineup of the Disengagement, playing a number of well-received shows across western Newfoundland that summer. September saw the release of a self-titled debut LP to positive reviews, and three months later the band was brought into their current incarnation as founding bassist Dane Colombe rejoined the fold. The band has since relocated to Nova Scotia and is currently working on their sophomore album.
