Jamie Sparks wins two 2008 East Coast Music Awards

By Tamzzs

Fredericton, Feb. 12, 2008 /CNW/ - EFE Music Group/Jamie Sparks has been trail blazing the Urban and R&B scene in Canada for over 12 years. The humble artist was very pleased with his recent 2008 ECMA wins; Urban Recording of the Year for his single, If You Were, and African Canadian Recording of the Year for his CD, Its The Music, which were announced this past Sunday in Fredericton, New Brunswick. This win means a lot to me. If I don’t put out another album in a while, I feel like I finished on top! This doesn’t mean I’m finished, it means I’m able to pursue other music avenues, such as writing and producing.

Jamie has had five prior ECMAs wins; Urban Single Recording of the year (2007) for his track, All I Need, that was won on the pre release of his newest CD, Its The Music, and African Canadian Recording of the Year for his CD, SCOTIA MIX VOL.1 (2007). In 2006 he won Urban Single Recording of the Year for his track Gonna Get Down. In 2000 he won Urban Recording of the Year. In 1998 Jamie won his first East Coast Music Award for Best Dance/Hip-Hop Artist of the Year and was nominated in 1999 for Male Vocalist of the Year. In addition to the two recent ECMA wins, Jamie was nominated for Male Solo Recording of the Year (2008), and in 2002 Jamie was nominated for a Juno for Best R&B/Soul Recording.

Presently he is working on projects with Freeplay Music in New York, writing and recording music for movie and television placement. To his credit, Jamie has had various songs placed in television and in movies; Da Kink In My Hair Barna-Alper/Global TV Network (2007), Cuts on UPN/CBS (2006), G-Spot: The Series The Movie Network 2005, Fox Networks programs such as American Embassy, 24 (2002), Wildcard on Lifetime Network (2003-2004). Jamie is also producing albums for three up and coming artists from Canada and abroad. If the urban and R&B artists continue to work at their craft, make it the best it can be, and get the music heard, I think that we will be able to propel this genera to the next level. This summer Jamie and his band will hit the road for a Canadian tour to promote his newest CD, Its The Music (recipient of three ECMAs) and will be dropping a new single to radio stations across the country in the up coming weeks.
