Jill plays Harmony Bazaar

Harmony Bazaar, Nova Scotia’s Festival of Women & Song 27 to 29 July, Lockeport

By Administrator

The Harmony Bazaar festival features range from ECMA award winner Jill Barber to a remarkable 100 Years of Quilts display to an outdoor Marketplace, visitors will be sure to enjoy our "something-for-everyone event!"

Halifax's Jill Barber is one of Canada's most distinctive young voices. This past spring, she won two 2007 East Coast Music Awards (and was nominated for two more) in honour of her long-anticipated sophomore album, For All Time. As our Saturday night headliner, Jill will close the evening's show with a memorable concert.

Harmony Bazaar, Nova Scotia's only Women's Music Festival, is home to three days of music and songs that speak to the experiences and narratives of women. Invitations are open to those who wish to participate in a Saturday gospel workshop facilitated by Pat Watson of Bridgewater.

The marketplace features many local women crafters and artists as well as local food vendors. The 100 Years of Quilts display and subsequent quilting workshops provide a glimpse into a traditional form of women's artwork.

Lockeport Nova Scotia is a beautiful backdrop for the week-end. With white powder sand beaches, a picturesque harbour, and a marine themed children's play park, the youngest to the oldest concert patron will find more to do than they can fit into the week-end.

The seed of Harmony Bazaar took root in 2004 with a small concert featuring three musicians: Shelley Meisner, Judi Cleveland and Kelli Buchanan, as well as comics Paulette Scott and Cathy Davis.

In the fall of '05, a second concert was declared a success. Many agreed it was time to launch a festival to further highlight the undiscovered talent within our community.

FishNet took the leading role in the project, a planning committee was formed with representation from a number of community-based organizations.
