Cara Luft tours Maritimes Nov 2 - 18 in support of “The Light Fantastic” CD Release

By Administrator

“The Light Fantastic is her sophomore solo album and it's a winner. Parts of the album are as gentle, low-keyed and stripped down as anything the Jennys did. Other parts are heavier, edgier, rockier, combining elements of traditional and contemporary folk with country and roots rock. The results are so pleasing because of Luft's considerable talents as a writer and performer, coupled with contributions from producer Neil Osborne (54-40) and an exciting group of guest musicians including multi-instrumentalist Hugh McMillan (Spirit of the West, James Keelaghan) and violinist Richard Moody (The Bills), among others.” Robert Reid, The Kitchener Waterloo Record

“Unlike so many singer song-writers Luft's music has an urgency that can't be denied. Luft is also not afraid to mix genres. Her songs veer from appalachian tinged folk via country rock to trad folk. Luft and her band sound equally at home in any of the genres. … as good as anything I've heard for a long time.” Americana UK

“Think Julie Miller meets Gillian Welch on a lot of this, with an occasional bit of Linda Thompson tossed in. This could be very big in Canadian roots circles” John P McLaughlin, The Vancouver Province

“Vancouver-raised and Winnipeg-based Cara Luft tempted fate when she left the successful Canadian female folk trio The Wailin' Jennys to resume a solo career. But her destiny seems assured. The Light Fantastic showcases her exceptional abilities as a guitarist and her compelling and distinctive voice. … the 12 original songs on her second solo album, produced by Neil Osborne, are a powerful combination of imagination, rhythmic power and social commentary.” Greg Quill, The Toronto Star

“The Light Fantastic” is the follow up to Cara Luft’s first full-length album, 2000’s “Tempting The Storm". After her debut was nominated for Outstanding Roots Recording at The Prairie Music Awards Cara went on to co-found the The Wailin' Jennys in 2002, touring extensively and recording two albums including the Juno-Award winning "40 Days" (Best Roots Recording). She left the trio in late 2004 to return to her own writing and solo career and “The Light Fantastic" is the wonderful result.
